I would love to collaborate on this! Would it be student focused or teacher focused? I'm in SL maybe once a month now, or more often if there are any in-service opportunities. Count me in. My SL name is Caleb Koenkamp Vicki Davis has here high ...

I have only dabbled in second life a little bit, but I think i would be cool to try and do the 21st century lutheran education conference there. It would be an exciting place to get together.

I'm in, now. Have you guys already started a public wave for Technology in Lutheran Schools?

I"m feeling left out of "The Wave." Some of my listservs and professional organizations have already started to use waves for collaboration and I'm still waiting on the sidelines :-). I'm hoping for that golden ticket / email soon.

By the way, I forgot to note a major limitation with most of the e-readers right now. Given the B&W epaper, use of color pictures is not possible, and more detailed graphics are limited. In a time when I think it is especially important for us to ...

Rob - Thanks for keeping the idea of the wiki alive. I haven't thought about it for months, but I continue to believe in the idea. It would be great for a team of us to move forward with it. Regarding use of the Kindle, I have not used it with st...

Profile Information

About Me:
I taught middle and high school theology in Lutheran schools for a dozen years and now serve as assistant professor of education at CUW. I currently teach the undergrad course, Teaching the Faith, as well as a variety of graduate educational technology courses. In addition to teaching, I am director of our M.S in Educational Technology program (http://martin.cuw.edu/wordpress/cuwedtech/) as well as the CUW Instructional Design Center.

I'm really interested in digital narrative, what educators can learn from video games, new literacies, digital culture, cyber-spirituality, and ministry in the digital world.

More importantly, I am a part of Lutheran education because I believe deeply in the mission of Lutheran education. It was in a 6th grade Lutheran classroom that I remember first hearing the great news of Jesus' death and resurrection and the fact that God loves me, personally. Continuing in Lutheran schools from that day through my first graduate degree, it was amid these schools that my faith was nurtured. I am a part of Lutheran schools because we understand that the greatest needs of this world will not be met by the latest and greatest technology. Our greatest needs are met in Jesus Christ.

Oh, and I'm a professional tennis player and bowler...at least my Mii is :-).

Online Curriculum Resources - help needed - wiki project

Greetings all! I am working with Dr. Karl Knorr here at Concordia University Wisconsin. He teaches a course called, Analysis of Instruction and needs to provide his students with more curriculum options than are available in our library. So, I suggsted that he try to get ideas from those of you who are in the trenches. We started a Wiki (http://curriculumlibrary.pbworks.com/ ) as a place where teachers can share online curricular resources that they use for the various content areas. Please see… Continue

Critical Issues in Educational Technology

Each semester I revise my graduate course on Critical Issues in Educational Technology to make sure that we are addressing those items that truly are the most critical issues when it comes to educational ministry in the digital world. I'd welcome your thoughts. What do you consider to be the most critical issues about which to be informed in the world of educational technology and 21st century education?

I'm thinking of doing a pretty large rework this time around, and I ultimately need to narr… Continue

Advice on Where to Post the Videos

Greetings all! I just finished my interview with Dr. James Jurgensen on "Musings of a Lutheran Education Warrior." We have a few ways to store and share the video at CUW, but I was thinking of possibly going with something separate from CUW. I'm not sure about TeacherTube's policy regarding explicitly Christian content. GodTube is an option. YouTube is, of course, another option. Do any of you have favorite video sharing options?

It consists of three separate files:

Yes, we have a Mac museum here and sometimes I wish I had saved more. Ever have a green plastic ebook?

The classic still works, but don't have the software anymore. Wasn't it like 4mgs of RAM?

Hi bdean,

With your work in Education Technology, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service.

I'm excited to see the Masters in Education Technology now available through CUW. I've brought more details on it back with me from LEA to share with my colleagues. Looks like a great, accessible program.

Michael, I was at LEA. In fact, I think we sat at the same table for the awards banquet. I should have check this blog before attending! Andrew was with us at the table, another member of this forum, so now you have some real people to go with the words.

Don't know how (exactly) you happened to snag my name... but (cliche') God works in mysterious ways.

I have spent the last 6 months or so considering the next step in my education.... Doctorate or Ph.D. ... and it just so happens that the programs I have been considering have been in the field of Educational Technology.

I am a 2nd (or 3rd) career teacher, with my first career being about 15 years of computer programming, systems analysis, network management... you get the picture.

Would love to chat....

I am currently teaching middle school (actually 5th through 8th grade) Science and make use of technology as often as possible.

I'll be there Mike. We are having a future of technology in Lutheran schools forum Wednesday night if you are interested. Also, on Thursday morning we will be having a Tech sharaton, where classroom teachers share specific ways in which they are using technology to improve student learning. Whatever the case, I look forward to meeting you in person.

Thanks for saying hello. I am wondering how many people from this blog site will be at LEA. As one who has been in Asia for the last 25 years, I would love the opportunity to meet some people in real life.
