A Lutheran educator and educational technologist... anxious to re-engage in the Lutheran school technology community of practice after a brief hiatus spent reconsidering where best to apply my gifts and abilities. (Apologies to those who I've lost connection with.) I'm on my way to Australia (mid-March?) to take a position as information technology teacher (Years 1-8) and Christian studies teacher (high school) at a ten-year old Lutheran school of 1,200 students just a short walk from the Indian Ocean surf.
Getting ready to wind down the year??? We are just getting "wound up."
Still interested in putting together a collaborative project? At best a collaborative content area project, at worst blogging or emailing buddies??
Just some thoughts. Our 5th-6th Grade Science teacher would be open to doing some type of project and right now in my IT "classes" our 5th-8th grade are starting work on a Internet etiquette wiki.
Let me know what you all have going and we can to put something together!
Tim,
Where are you guys at in your school year down under? I'd like to see what your schedule would be to put together some type of collaborative project between some classes!
I hope we might be able to work something out! Let me know.
Hey Tim! It is great to hear from you. Let me know when you are settled in and ready to teach another CUW course. BTW - The M.S. in Ed Tech program is now live and I am in the process of adding quite a few new and fun courses.
Also, if all goes well, I'll be in Australia for the National Lutheran Teachers Conference. Will you be there? It would be great to touch base again.
Regarding your thoughts on "Drafts of Goals to Pursue" and "Teaching to Swim Without Getting in the Pool":
This is an area of void that I have recognized for some time. My focus has been media literacy and your thoughts dovetail nicely with mine.
My question(s): Is a "Christian footprint" to be Christ-like online? Or are we to be overt witnesses? Perhaps a bit of both? If the answer is “to be Christ-like” then how do we separate ourselves from the countless moral relativists found online? If the answer is that we should witness with every given opportunity, then the age old RL (real life) question applies: How do we do this? (an extremely relevant question in need of 21st century, usable answers). IMHO, it is these questions that should help guide the curriculum changes you suggest and promote (as do I). I also believe that real solutions lie in the thoughts and patterns of tomorrow’s leaders. We should lean on our youth and YA’s to facilitate real kingdom building in a virtual world.
Great to hear from you again Tim. Congrats on the new position. The area looks great.
Hello Tim. So glad we got to meet and share during our brief time together at LEA. I am going to keep a closer ear to this group than I have in the past. I hope I will have some good stuff to contribute. I'm doing a lot for the locals here in PSW district but Nationally I'm not as visible anymore. God Bless!

Had to accept the friendship offer. The pressure was on after your blog post!
Welcome to Technology in the Lutheran Schools Network. TECHLS has a wonderful group of educators and technologists with whom you can share ideas, links, sites, or whatever!
Let me know if you have any questions or just post something to the forum.
We have quite a few faculty members from our Concordia University System, so hopefully there are some immediate contacts you can make?
