Technology in Lutheran Schools

Technology in Lutheran Schools

Seeing the widespread use of the recorded sessions, getting a solid attendance at the live sessions, and having received some great feedback, it seems worth planning for a second conference. We can plan on hosting it in January of 2010. That gives us quite a bit of time to plan and explore. Are any of you interested in being part of a planning team?

Or, how about simply brainstorming some possibilities right here? What should we keep? What should we change? What should we add?

Here a a few thoughts to get us started:

I'd like to have a one or two keynotes next year. Any ideas for keynotes?

I want to keep the k-20, schooling, parish and all forms of Lutheran education diversity among attendees and presenters. Any suggestions of people that we should directly invite to present...people with great, unique, or important perspectives to share?

What are ideas for building participant collaboration and fellowship beyond the sessions?

I've been playing around with the idea of actually starting with an online devotional time, even with live music.

I like the idea of encouraging and inviting groups of people to gather face-to-face around the country/world to participate in the online conference together...at least for parts

Other ideas? Or reactions to these?

Is there any possibility of podcasting both sessions from 2009 and 2010?

All of the sessions are recorded in Adobe Connect, so there are recordings available from all sessions at www.21cle.com. The benefit of keeping them in Connect is that the recordings are fully interaction. So, if there is a hyperlink that appears in the recorded session, you can actually click on it. Or if a doucment is posted to share, you can download it from the recording. However, Connect includes an option to export the entire recording into an FLV. From there we have a tool that autoconverts to M4V and shares for podcasting. So, that was a long way of saying yes :-).

I'm sure you've seen the K12 Online Conference site. I really like how they have a page for each session with an embedded version of the session and links to various download formats as well. They also offer podcasts of the conference.

I'd be interested in being a convener.

It is finally time for me to start working on 21CLE 2010. I'll just set up some Google Docs for initial group planning and brainstorming, but feel free to start sharing ideas and suggestions here. What are the features that you really want to see at the conference? How about topics? Again, feel free to post here are send me a message letting me know if you want me to add you to the brainstorming docs.

I will also be posting a request to submit proposals (should be up by late May or early June). I know this is much earlier than last time, but I'm hoping for a great turnout. My goal is to have a daily keynote plus 30 presentations...and at least 600 attendees.

And just because it is an easy start, here is my suggested hashtag for conference: #21cle2010 .

Who all is helping to convene the conference? Do we want to start disseminating screen names, Twitter ID's, and the like?

If we want to use Twitter at all, I'm "rjacklin"

Our 7th grade goes to SpaceCamp in a couple of weeks, so I'll have time to do a little work then.

Thanks for all your efforts Bernard!

Thanks, Rob! Yes, lets start sharing those Twitter IDs, etc. Thanks for tweeting already today. I know that you sent this to me already, but I'd like to invite you to a Google Doc. Do you have a preferred email for that? Or, if you like I can create a rjacklin@21cle.com account for you (and others involved) as I'm running 21cle.com through Google Aps now.

LEA expressed a willingness to help coordinate, but I need to follow up with them. So, early stages... :-)

We still need some more great presentations for the 2010 Online Conference on 21st Century Lutheran Education. Please consider submitting a proposal this week at www.21cle.com. I need your help to make this as successful as last year. If you have something to share, this is a great avenue to get the word out to others in Lutheran education. The official close date has passed, but you are still welcome to submit something until Sunday, January 10th.

Blessings,

Bernard

The tentative schedule of presentations is now on the web site for the 2010 Online Conference on 21st Century Lutheran Education (http://blog.cuw.edu/21cle/schedule-of-events/). We are still waiting on confirmation for a couple of the presenters, and we have some presentation slots open for Friday (2/26) afternoon. The schedule will be updated over the next two weeks as those slots are filled. If you are interested, I encourage you to register to attend by going to 21cle.com. It is free, open to all, and runs on February 25-26. You are welcome to stop by for one or two presentations, or if you schedule allows, attend everything. Like last year, all sessions will be recorded and made freely available for viewing throughout the year (most of last year's presentations are still available in the conference archives). If you are willing, it would be great if you would help spread the word.
