Technology in Lutheran Schools

Technology in Lutheran Schools

Who is planning to attend the LEA Convocation this year? The MTM Project is hosting two events. One is the evening before the regular conference. It will be a forum discussion about the state of ed tech in Lutheran schools as well as the future of Lutheran schools in a digital world. The next morning there is going to be an event about which I am excited, a sort of show-and-tell where classroom teachers will have the chance to demonstrate great lessons and uses of technology to enhance teaching and learning. If any of you have a great lesson and might be interested in presenting/sharing at this, I would love to chat with you about the possibility. Or if you know of others who would be good candidates, that would be good to know also.

Paul,
I'm looking into doing a webcast. Would you be interested in putting that together with me??
Kind of like something from Ed Tech Talk from Worldbridges.

Until then, count me in for a teacher to teacher.

Paul - That sounds like a neat idea, but leads to another possibility also. I've been thinking about trying to put together and host an online conference: Technology in Lutheran Education. I've pondered a few venues. One option is Second Life. I've attended some great conferences there, like the New Media Consortium Online conference, but Second Life has a learning curve and many don’t have experience with it. Another option is an entirely live/synchronous option like DimDim, Connect, or Elluminate. Still another option is to go with one of he online conference all in one hosting solutions. For a modest fee, they deal with all of the registration; provide live conferencing rooms, built-in pre- and post- conference message boards, etc. A better option might be to use a live room (ask Perry B. if we can use the Lutheran School Portal Breeze/Connect, and then use lutheraneducation.net for all of the asynchronous stuff. Lutheraneducation.net also has LeTube (Lutheran Education Tube, just like youtube but for Lutheran teachers). We could use that for a variety of pre-recorded presentations and others can include text and video replies. By the way, Lutheraneducation.net was partially set up for LEA pre and post-conference activities.

I'm one of those with little or no experience with many of the forums you've mentioned, so I'm in the crawl before you walk before you run stage. My read/write web experiences so far have focused on podcasting and a few video podcasts (asynchronous), but I'd like to get my feet wet with some synchronous stuff. I was thinking Skype because it's simple. So, the offer stands. If you'd like to meet sometime on Skype, share back and forth, even a one-time thing, let me know. It's been a while since I've had a good chat with a Concordia prof!

There's so much up-and-coming stuff out there, it boggles the imagination!

Thanks for the reply,
Paul

Always interested! I teach many classes-our 5th grade is already collaborating via Skypevideocalls-so...6th grade? Let me know - mrsdurff on Skype. We're not a Lutheran school, if that makes a difference..Broadfording Christian Academy is a Brethren School but we take 'em all. Last year Rob Jacklin and I did a video conference with our 7th graders.
